Vance McGhee Obituary
Vance Terrell McGhee was born on May 3, 1964 to the union of Vance Swift McGhee and Mary Frances McGhee in Caswell County, NC. Although Vance was an only child, he was well loved and served as a brother to many. His smile was infectious, and his presence would light up a room. He was affectionately known by many of his college friends as “Mac”, but in his professional life he preferred to be called Vance. Yet, his family still lovingly called him Terrell.
At an early age he accepted God as his Personal Savior and was a member of Gwynn's Chapel Baptist Church in Pelham, NC. There he served as a member of the youth and young adult choir and regularly attended Sunday School. Vance was a 1982 graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School in Yanceyville, NC. Upon graduating from high school, he matriculated and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte with a degree in political science. He would later attend graduate school at Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA to pursue his Master’s degree in Business Administration. During his college tenure, he participated in basketball and flag football.
After graduating from UNC-Charlotte, his career would eventually lead him to Atlanta Georgia. Vance spent his entire professional career in the mortgage lending business. He and his business partner, Carl Williams, co-founded Westminster Mortgage where he was co-owner and Vice President. He went on to successfully start several other mortgage businesses with business partners: Vincent Terry, Baxter Barber, and Jessie Miles. Throughout his professional career he has helped thousands of families realize their dream of becoming homeowners. He shared his love of the mortgage business by mentoring, teaching, and motivating many young professionals that he introduced to the business. Over the years, he developed many professional and personal relationships with realtors, appraisers, closing attorneys, banking executives and government officials, who loved and respected him dearly. In addition, Vance was an avid golfer and tennis player traveling all over the world living out his passion. However, his most cherished role in life was that of being a dad.
Vance was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind to cherish his memories: Dr. Nanette Cook and two loving daughters, Nadia and Kaylan McGhee of Mableton, Georgia. Others left to mourn his passing are his aunts: Linda Dennis, Baltimore, Maryland; Beverly Thomas (Demetrius), Jacksonville, Florida; family patriarch, Great Uncle John L. Nash, Sr., (Gwen), Seaside, California; family matriarch Jean Taylor (Robert), Monterey, California; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, golf buddies and friends.
