Mr. Douglas Lamar Andrews (affectionately called "Doug"), 81, of Atlanta, Georgia was called home on February 15, 2026, at Harbor Grace Hospice. Douglas was born on January 7, 1945. He was the beloved son of the late Artis Andrews, Sr. and Ruthie Mae Walker Andrews in Barnesville, Georgia. He was raised in Dayton, Ohio and was a proud graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Class of 1964.
Doug carried Christ in his heart. He was baptized at the age of 16 on July 2nd, 1961, at Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church, Dayton, Ohio.
After graduating from high school, Douglas joined the United States Army in July 1964. He served until June 1967. During his time of service, Doug received several promotions: PVT-E-2 (November of 1964), PFC-E-3 (March of 1965), and SP/4-E-4 (May of 1966). His rank at the time of his retirement was SP/4. He later served in the Reserves (June of 1967) until his Honorable Discharge in 1971.
Doug went on to further his education in electrical studies. He gained several certifications and began employment with Dayton Power and Light, and later with the City of East Point, where he worked for 20 years until his retirement as the Operations Manager. He was known for his leadership, kindness, dedication, generosity, and humor.
Doug was a man of many talents and had several hobbies. He enjoyed reading the Bible, photography, wood carvings, music, baking, cooking, collectibles, and writing poetry. If you ever had the pleasure of having one of his pound cakes, then you know he was an exceptional baker (everything was made from scratch). He wouldn't have it any other way. His passion for music was the key element of Doug becoming a great DJ; he definitely brought the party.
Above all, Doug cherished his Faith in God, his family and friends. He enjoyed attending church at Shiloh Baptist Church, Dayton, OH, where he worshipped every Sunday and was an active member. Doug shared his devotion by serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon at his previous churches in Georgia.
Douglas Lamar Andrews is survived by his loving wife, Tana Folley Andrews. Sisters Ruthie Page of Springs, GA, Ethel Dangerfield and Gwendolin Bohannon of Dayton, OH. Brother Artris Andrews Jr. of Dayton, OH. Artris Andrews Jr. (Glenda) of Dayton, OH, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of extended family and friends.
Doug will be greatly missed by all those whom his heart touched. His smile will forever live on in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Mr. Douglas Andrews on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Enlightened Christian Center; 601 Tower Rd., Marietta, GA 30060.
